Are Apollo motorhomes and campervans easy to drive?

We understand how important your peace of mind is when driving an unfamiliar vehicle in unfamiliar surroundings. From the thousands of customers and staff who have driven our motorhomes and campervans, we have had nothing but surprise and pleasure at how easy our vehicles are to drive.

Driving a motorhome is slightly different to driving a car, as they are diesel engine commercial vehicles. However, as long as you are familiar with driving a vehicle with manual transmission, your driving experience will be simple and easy as you enjoy the comfort, luxury and safety of an Apollo Motorhome!

I am 10 minutes late in returning my vehicle, will I be charged an extra day?

No, we offer a 59 minute grace period. If you are due to return your vehicle at 1pm and are not at the branch until 1:10pm you will not be charged an extra day. If you are 60 minutes or longer late you will be changed an additional fee.

How old will the car be that I hire?

The cars we offer are no older than 18 months old.

Can I tow with this car?

No. Towing is a violation of the rental agreement and is not permitted under any circumstances.

What happens if I drop the car at a different location than where I indicated?

Returning a vehicle to a different location to the one listed on your contract is not permitted, if you do return to a different location you will be subject to a penalty charge.

How much will I be reimbursed for my Taxi fee to the Branch?

At pick-up you will be reimbursed up to NZ$15 incl GST for your taxi fare to the branch. You must provide a copy of your taxi receipt to be reimbursed.

What if I have a problem with the car

We offer 24 hours Emergency Roadside Assistance. Just call the number listed on your key tag at from anywhere in Australia, and a representative will make arrangements for you to be on your way as quickly as possible.

I made a reservation through my Travel Agent can I change or cancel my booking directly with Apollo?

No, the request to change or cancel a booking must come from the Travel Agent.

Can I between the Islands on the Ferry?

Yes, but the vehicle is not permitted to travel on the ferry. You will return your vehicle at the branch located at the Interislander Ferry Terminal and collect another vehicle on the other island once you have crossed. When booking your ferry crossing you only need to book passenger tickets.

I am arriving late at night; can I collect my vehicle from the Airport?

Yes, we are able to offer downtown and Airport locations. Please note additional fees apply for an Airport pick-up.

What is the minimum driver’s age?

The driver must be at least 21 years of age and meet the driver’s licence requirements as per the Terms and Conditions.

Do I need to pay an age surcharge as I am under 25 years of age?

No, we do not charge an age surcharge fee for drivers aged between 21 and 25 years of age.

Do you accept overseas driver’s licence?

Yes, however if your licence is not printed in English you will need to arrange an International Driver’s Licence.

Will I need snow chains in the Queenstown Lakes District and Milford Sound regions?

Yes, due to motorists being caught in the above areas without snow chains during sudden snowfalls in winter, bylaws have been introduced to penalise people who travel to these areas without snow chains.
